Is there a concensus for the baptist denomination on "tithing"?

I have attended a baptist church where tithing was preached as unscriptural for the present day christian church. Then I have attended others that taught that Malachi 3 was applicable to present day tithing. Why is there a difference on this key teaching in the same denomination amongst individual churches. Is there no conference or association that checks these teachings?
