Can I put 5w30 on my 03 jetta 1.8?

If your car doesn't have performance mods resulting in higher boost levels, and isn't driven real hard, I'd say synthetic 5w30 is fine. With hot summer weather and a car running elevated boost levels, having 40 weight in there is a necessity for the health of the turbo.
