Christians- what happened to all the people before Jesus (peace be upon him) came to Earth?

Christ went to Hades while in the tomb and taught the gospel to those who had died w/o the truth all the way back to the beginning. Many accepted and followed Jesus out of hades and into eternal life in paradise. 1st Peter 3:19-20.
