Has any one had any dangerous mechanical issues with the 2011 VW Jetta?

Im extremely pissed off I just purchased a brand new 2011 VW Jetta with my current mileage not even exceeding 1000. My girlfriend called me hysterically today and she told me that on her way to work the steering wheel locked while she was driving, as if that wasn't enough it just happened to occur as she was going approx 40mph entering the apex of a turn which thankfully had a wide emergency lane, so she managed to stop the car unharmed. I tried my best to calm her down and figure out what was wrong with the car. I assumed the power steering belt might have slipped or maybe she went through a deep puddle and lost power steering temporarily. That wasn't the case, in fact the cars accelerator also malfunction at the same time and it completely seized responding despite her frantic attempts to pump the gas pedal, she told me that she brought the car to a complete stop, turned the car off then back on and the steering and accelerator worked fine... I don't know why the hell this happened but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same malfunctions or know of any recalls, Id really appreciate it... oh and by the way DON'T BUY A NEW JETTA FOR YOUR GIRLFRIEND
