Whats the best first car?

ive driven a 07 toyota yaris for awhile now and also my cousins 5.0 mustang..love both cars. Now I have saved about 2000 dolars to purcahse my first car...I really like german cars...mainly want something that is as luxurious as i can get for that price..either that or fast... I like VW allot..i was thiking of finding a gti??? how cheap can i get a 01 jetta? suggestions..im open to any..i prefer no civics
