Vw Jetta blue-tooth question?

I bought my very first car yest. 2011 vw jetta and i love it. i have bluetooth in it and i can receive calls, but i can not talk to person when i answer the phone. i can hear them. its like the microphone in the cabin isnt working. (yes i tried taking it off/on mute) and when i try to call someone though voice activation such as "call home" they dont even pick up that i am talking. anyone know what to do?
